Lockets have a long history. One story in the Christian tradition tells of a great church being built in 300 A.D. on Mount Calvary in Jerusalem. When the ground was be excavated three crosses were discovered. One of the crosses with the mark of nails was believed to be the Holy Cross on which Jesus Christ was crucified. A small piece of this cross was placed in a special locket and is viewed once a year at the Holy Cross Church on Good Friday. This is one way in which the sacrifice of Jesus Christ for our salvation is remembered.
