St. Benedict Medal in Sterling Silver
Patron Saint of Monks
Includes a 20 in. Stainless Chain and a Deluxe Gift Box.
Born to a wealthy family, Benedict was sent to Rome to study at the end of the fifth century. The corruption he found in Rome caused him to reconsider his life. He gave up his inheritance and sought the presence of God in solitude. He became a hermit, but the holiness of his life brought others to live with him. His first attempts to create a community of monks were not successful. However the monastery he founded in Monte Cassino exists to the present day. Benedict is also important because the monastic Rule of Saint Benedict that he wrote became the foundation for monastic life in Europe
