St. Peregrine (Laziosi Peregrinus) was a 13th century monk and mystic. His conversion came following his participation in a public disturbance during which he struck the face of St. Philip Benizi. "When the saint calmly turned the other cheek, Peregrinus underwent an overwhelming conversion." Honored as the patron saint of cancer patients, Saint Peregrine, a native of Italy suffered from cancer of the foot "until, as the result of a vision, he was miraculously cured.
