St. Anne, is the traditional name of the Mother of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Revered as the mother of Mary she is the Grandmother of Jesus. Her name is derived from the Hebrew "Hannah" which means favor of grace. In a
St. Anne Medal she is often portrayed either seated or standing with Mary (the Blessed Mother) as a child.
Her role in the formation of Mary and in the life of her grandson Jesus, places St. Anne firmly in the center of family life. Unsurprisingly Anne is a patron for housewives, granddaughters, unmarried women, women in labor. But she also is a patron of horseback riders, cabinet makers and miners; the last due to Christ being compared to gold and Mary to silver.
